Privacy
What this site collects, and who else is involved.
Written plainly and kept short. A policy nobody can read protects nobody. Last updated 20 August 2026.
The short version
You can read every article here without giving us anything. There is no account, no login and no paywall. We ask for your email only if you choose to subscribe, and we ask for nothing else at all.
What we do have is advertising and analytics from Google, which use cookies, and a Ko-fi panel on some pages. Those are third parties, they set their own cookies, and the rest of this page is mostly about them.
Who runs this site
Bangkok Lad is an independent publication operated from Thailand. For anything on this page — including a request to see or delete what we hold — write to hello@bangkoklad.com and a person will answer.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
The signup form collects your email address and nothing else. It is submitted to Kit (opens in a new tab) (formerly ConvertKit), which stores the list and sends the emails. Kit records the usual delivery data — whether a message was opened, whether a link was clicked.
We use it to send you articles. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and using it removes you from the list. The lawful basis is your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Advertising
This site carries advertising served by Google AdSense
(publisher ID ca-pub-8391725665550908).
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites on the internet.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks may also serve ads here and may use cookies or similar identifiers to do it.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings (opens in a new tab), or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies at aboutads.info (opens in a new tab) and youronlinechoices.com (opens in a new tab).
Thirteen articles carry no advertising, ever
A number of pieces here are about road deaths, heat deaths, lead exposure, children working at traffic lights, prisoners doing confined-space work and similar. Those pages serve no ads, no newsletter prompt and no donation panel — the ad script is not loaded on them at all, so there is nothing to place. That is an editorial commitment enforced in the build, not a preference.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (G-J36Y7PQ0X3) to see which articles are read and roughly where readers come from. It sets cookies and collects your IP address, browser and device type, and the pages you visit. We do not use it to identify anyone individually, and we have no interest in doing so.
Ko-fi
Some pages embed a Ko-fi panel so readers can support the writing.
It is an <iframe> loaded from ko-fi.com, which
means Ko-fi can set its own cookies when the page
loads, not only if you use it. Their handling is covered
by Ko-fi's privacy policy (opens in a new tab).
If you donate, the payment is taken by Ko-fi and their payment
processor. We never see your card details.
Consent, if you are in the UK, EEA or Switzerland
You will be asked before advertising and analytics cookies are set, through a Google-certified consent message. Refusing is as easy as accepting, you can change your mind at any time from the same dialog, and the articles are identical either way.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no passwords, no logins.
- No selling or renting of any reader data.
- No web fonts from Google. Archivo is served from this domain, so no third party sees your IP address for the sake of a typeface.
- The links to X, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook are ordinary links. They are not embeds and reach nobody until you click them.
Hosting and logs
The site is static files on a commercial web host. Like any web server, it keeps access logs containing IP addresses and requested URLs, retained by the host for a short period for security and diagnostics.
Your rights
Depending on where you live — under the UK and EU GDPR, and under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) — you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how it is used, or withdraw consent. For the newsletter that is usually a one-click unsubscribe; for anything else, email hello@bangkoklad.com. We will answer within 30 days.
Data held by Google and Ko-fi is held under their own policies — Google (opens in a new tab) and Ko-fi (opens in a new tab) — and requests about it are best made to them directly.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes
If we add a third party or change what we collect, this page is updated and the date at the top changes with it. Substantive changes are noted here rather than made quietly, for the same reason corrections to articles are.
